Mobility under the Erasmus+ program or within the framework of a bilateral agreement does not include automatic insurance cover.
Students and employees are obliged to take care of their own insurance cover!
The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC ), which can be found on the back of the e-card, can be used to ensure basic health insurance cover. In other European countries, it proves that you have statutory health insurance in Austria.
The EHIC is valid in all 27 EU member states and a number of other European countries.
It should be noted that not all costs may be covered by the EHIC. The respective national law applies!
It is therefore recommended that you take out supplementary insurance . We advise you to take out the following insurance policies in addition to the EHIC for all stays abroad (studies/internships) - both in other European countries and outside of other European countries - if they do not already exist:

The EHIC is only valid if you are staying temporarily in another European country, e.g. as part of a study abroad program.

The healthcare systems of the individual countries are different. It is therefore possible that services for which you would not have to pay anything in your home country may be subject to a charge in other countries.

For stays in countries outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland, you should ask the relevant health insurance fund whether there are any intergovernmental agreements that include health insurance; if not, you should take out private health insurance as well as the insurance policies listed above! You can also find information on the website of the Austrian Health Insurance Fund ÖGK.
Students are obliged to clarify with the internship provider before the start of the intern ship whether they will be covered by accident and/or liability insurance for the duration of the internship!
As a student, you are coveredby accident and liability insurance as part of the ÖH insurance during the internship or on the way between the internship location and your place of residence, provided that the ÖH contribution has been paid in the semester in question.
However, it is recommended that you take out additional insurance that is also valid outside of working hours.
As an ÖH member, you are insured against accidents and liability for the entire semesterby paying the ÖH fee, even during stays abroad. The insurance cover starts at the beginning of your studies on the day of admission and is then valid for the duration of the semester.
In principle, accidents that occur during your studies/internship are insured. Liability insurance covers damage caused by students to other persons during their studies/internship.

Please note: There is no insurance cover for liability claims in the USA, Australia and Canada!
The ÖH insurance does not include health insurance!
