The main woodworking area is part of the workshop formation based at the facility on Hauptplatz 6 along with the respective head offices. For all theoretical needs, a well equipped seminar room is available.
Complex woodworking techniques can be learned in seminars supported by the extensive know-how of lecturers and employees (registration required).
Equipment
The main wood workshop is equipped for the handling of solid wood and derived timber products. In addition to a basic hand tool selection, there are professional woodworking machines available such as a sliding table saw, band saw, surface planning machine, thickness planer, table milling machine, edge sander, drill press, turning lathe, gluing stand, horizontal slot mortise and sliding mitre saw (on demand).
In addition to the standard material processing instruments for wood, metal and synthetics, we also offer a wide range of computer aided manufacturing systems such as laser cutting, 3D printing and a CNC router.
Requirements for the use of the workshops

Enrolment in a workshop introduction seminar at the beginning of the semester is required in order to use a workshop. A record of participation with a signature will be stored in the workshop for reference by employees, teaching staff or study assistants. There is no restriction on the number of participants.
Prerequisite for working on the machines or handheld devices is participation in instruction, which takes place in seminars of smaller groups. Registration for the course is mandatory.
Working is generally possible during the lecture period under the supervision of a workshop manager or instructed lecturer.
According to Austrian law, even a student classified as a skilled worker has no further freedom / rights with regard to the operation of machines and devices.
Commercial use is not possible for graduates and third parties.
What do you need to bring to the workshop?
The respective workshop user takes care of the materials required for the realisation of projects. In the case of larger projects, consultation with the workshop management is necessary.
- tight-fitting work clothes (no wide sleeves, ...)
- closed and non-slip work boots (shoes mandatory during summertime - risk of cuts, stab wounds, ...)
- safety glasses (closed on the side if possible)
- tape measure (3m) and pencil
- cutter, cutter-blades, and scissors
- adhesive tapes
- adhesives and special glues (e.g. express glue)
- work gloves
- hand sandpaper for wood (lacquer sandpaper) and plastic (wet sandpaper)
- oils and varnishes for surface treatment
What does the workshop provide for project work?
- tools for woodworking machines

- sanding papers for random orbit sanders, hand belt sanders, ...
- glue (normal solid wood glue, no special glue)
- polishing wheel for Plexiglas
- safety gloves for processing plastics
