Conceptual Drawing
The course deals with the processes and qualities of traditional drawing with conceptual concerns. It will present students with the history, materials, techniques and vocabulary of drawing. Three studio projects (portrait, body contour, and private/public drawings) will explore techniques and concepts pertaining to the translation of the three-dimensions into the two dimensional notation of drawing.
Course Objectives
In addition to studio projects, students will be exposed to historical and contemporary examples of various drawings, selected reading and viewing works in museums and galleries. Various techniques and methods of drawing will be introduced and utilized by students. A range of materials and types of application and manipulation will be explored and assimilated by students with the aim of realizing a way of working that is distinctly unique and autographic. Through the combination of the technical and formal elements in addition to the theoretical and conceptual components of visual relationships, students will address drawing in terms of its meaning function. The basic elements of drawing; the formal qualities and compositional arrangement, will be explored in terms of their combinable potential to project meaning. Drawing is also investigated as a tool for notation and exploration of visual and conceptual elements that will be worked in other media. Exhibition
All students will be required to participate in an exhibition at the end of the course. Students coordinate with each other and me concerning all aspects of the exhibition. This means discussing the choice of art pieces, installation, opening preparations and de-installing. Vernissage: Dienstag, 06.06.06. ab 19.00 Uhr
