Gratulation zum DOC-Stipendium der ÖAW

Wir möchten ganz herzlich Lei Xi gratulieren, der für sein PhD-Projekt das DOC-Stipendium der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften (ÖAW) erhält.

Lei Xi wird mit seinem Forschungsprojekt „Beyond Geo-anthropocentrism and Land-centrism“ von Prof. Dr. Gudrun Rath betreut. Wir freuen uns darüber, dass ein PhD-Forschungsprojekt der Kunstuniversität Linz durch das DOC-Stipendium gefördert wird.

Lei Xi ist seit Herbst 2020 PhD-Kandidat der Kunstuniversität Linz und wird ab September 2023 das dreijährige Stipendium antreten.

Abstract
With water-related sites and issues, such as Beijing’s hydraulic systems, Sangyuanwei Polder Embankment (桑园围), and the snow-making industry in Austria, as the main case studies, this ongoing artistic research project aims to investigate and rethink geo-anthropocentrism (a form of anthropocentrism based on a geographical hierarchy), land-centrism (a position that regards non-terrestrial environments, such as waters, with a terrestrial bias), and their interplay with the land-water hierarchy. Based on particular on-site knowledge and embodied experiences I gathered during fieldwork, as well as a series of artistic practices, this project also aims to explore new implications of "amphibiousness" in terms of artistic methods, providing new directions for reshaping the relationships between land, water, humans, non-humans.
