Designing a fair city!

March 7, 2024, 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. afo architekturforum oberösterreich, Herbert-Bayer-Platz 1, 4020 Linz

Planning culture for a gender-equitable and inclusive city

Lecture by Sabine Pollak, raum&designstrategien, at the symposium.

On theeve of International Women's Day, the sym posiumStadt fair gestalten! makes the connections between gender issues, intersectionality and urban planning visible. The curator of the symposium, Veronika Platz, has invited exciting speakers: Heide Studer, tilia - Büro für Landschaftsplanung; Petra Stiermayr, Stadtplanung Linz; maiz und das kollektiv; Sabine Pollak, Kunstuniversität Linz; Ernst Gebetsroither-Geringer, Austrian Institute of Technology; Marlene Wagner, TU Wien; Petra Hirschler, TU Wien, Raumplanung, as well as Eva Schobesberger, Dietmar Prammer, Katja Schechtner and Wojciech Czaja for the podium.

The design and therefore also the usability of our cities is based on a male-dominated planning culture. Motorized private transport stands in contrast to the requirements of different users for public open spaces. The extent to which the necessary transformation and thus fairer division of the city, towards a city for all, has succeeded can be seen from how barrier-free, appropriate and inviting the design of places, paths and structural elements is for all city dwellers.
