Christina Capriolo The research project focuses on the knowledge/cognition produced by body-based artistic practices and research, addressing the question of the modalities in which these embodied, experiential and subtle knowledge(s) could be experienced without separating the process of cognition (Erkenntnisprozess) from the artistic process. To this extent, The promise of the abyss conceives the body as a dynamic, complex and porous entity, constantly hosting and triggering processes of transformation in connection with other human and non-human bodies. Approaching the body from the perspective of affective theories (Lisa Blackman) as an organism that is “constantly affecting and being affected”, the body becomes a crucial agent through which knowledge and cognition are processed, produced and transmitted generating new ways of getting to know within the realms of art. Starting from the following questions: What kinds of body/bodies are needed/demanded/at stake to inhabit the realms of art as a process of getting to know? In turn, what kinds of body/bodies are produced by the inhabitation of realms of art as a process of getting to know? How can this body/these bodies inhabit the world beyond the realm of art? the project aims to produce specific cognitive ‘circumstances’ foreseeing the experimentation and production of a series of dispositifs and practices that I name Spaces of knowledge and Exuberant temporalities.
