Wo gehobelt wird, fallen Späne – im speziellen Fall der Strickindustrie sind das Garnabfälle und fehlerhafte Gestricke.
Dieser Abfall zeigt sich unglaublich vielfältig in Farbe, Farbkomposition und Struktur und kommt besonders am Ende eines Arbeitstages zum Vorschein, wenn die Produktionshalle gereinigt wird.
Diese Fülle an Material inspiriert mich zur Auseinandersetzung und wirft die Frage auf, was damit noch alles gemacht werden kann.
Einmal in die Hand genommen, erinnert das Fadenkonvolut an die Weichheit von Moosen und die Strukturen von Flechten.
Beide sind wesentliche Bestandteile unseres Ökosystems und zeigen als Bioindikatoren dessen Gesundheitszustand auf.
Da ausgerechnet die Textilindustrie wesentlich zur Verunreinigung der Umwelt beiträgt, ist es essenziell einen Kreislauf zu schaffen und auch die wertvolle Ressource Garn weiter zu nutzen. Aus diesem Gedanken heraus entsteht in meiner Vorstellung ein Bild von textilen Moosstrukturen, die den menschlichen Körper nach und nach bedecken, umhüllen und schmücken.
Für die Designs werden die gesammelten Garnreste und fehlerhafte Strickteile händisch aufgetrennt und mit derselben Technik, mit der sie ursprünglich zu einem Kleidungsstück wurden – dem Stricken - wieder zusammengeführt.
Dies geschieht durch die geduldige Arbeit an der Handstrickmaschine, da hier gestalterisch und spontan in den Prozess eingegriffen werden kann und auch kleinsteTeilchen dieses Abfalls zu einem Fashionmoment werden.
So kann dieses Material der ursprünglichen Bestimmung, nämlich am Körper getragen zu werden, wieder oder weiter nachkommen.
Where wood is chopped, splinters must fall - in the specific case of the knitting industry, these are yarn scraps and faulty knits. This waste manifests itself in incredible variety of color, color composition and structure, and is particularly evident at the end of a workday when the production hall is cleaned. This wealth of material inspires me to engage with it and raises the question of what else can be done with it.
Once taken in hand, the bundle of threads is reminiscent of the softness of mosses and the structures of lichens.
Both are essential components of our ecosystem and serve asbioindicators of its health condition.
Considering that the textile industry, of all industries, significantly contributes to environmental pollution, it is crucial to create a cycle and continue utilizing the valuable resource of yarn. From this idea, an image of textile moss structures arises, gradually covering, enveloping, and adorning the human body.
For the designs, the collected yarn scraps and faulty knitted pieces are manually unraveled and reconnected using the same technique through which they originally became garments - knitting. This is done through patient work on the hand knitting machine, as it allows for creative and spontaneous intervention in the process, turning even the tiniest fragments of this waste into a fashion moment.
Thus, this material can again or continue to fulfill its original purpose, namely to be worn on the body.
